“Ten-Year Anniversary” Benefit Concert – Redding & Chico, CA

by admin on September 11, 2011

Ten-year anniversary of 9/11 Chamber Music Concert features Middle Eastern and Western Music by SonaTrio + One

On September 11, 2011, SonaTrio + One offers a commemoration of the ten years since 9/11, featuring chamber music of the clarinet, violin, cello, and piano.   Bruce Belton, Cherie Gans, and Ellen Southard are members of the long-standing trio from Redding, adding Alan Clark on the cello, from Sacramento.  They have regularly concertized in several locales in the north state.

SonaTrio feels strongly that the world needs bridges between different cultures, to insure that mutual understanding will bring peace—country to country, village to village, person to person.  Each individual can assess whether there has been an improvement in the relations between the Middle East and the West during the past ten years.  There are several ways to work for peace and understanding, including prayer, education, travel with an open mind and soul, and music.  The audience is invited to delve into all of these!

SonaTrio brings a concert that blends the musical languages of the Middle East with our own, using Turkish, Iraqi, klezmer, and Armenian pieces, followed by a romp through the musical genres typifying the music of the United States.  Although some of the music is anonymous, featured composers are Edward Hines, Khachaturian, Stravinsky, and Rick Sowash.

The concert will be given in Redding at the Pilgrim Congregational Church at 3:15, and in Chico at the Trinity United Methodist Church with a vigil at 7:00 and music at 7:30.  All of the proceeds are shared between Redding’s Inter-Faith Council, Chico’s Peace and Justice Center, and the Euphrates Institute, which works for better understanding between the Middle East and America.  For more information, call 246-1909.

by admin on June 26, 2011

Forrest Wilder (Trip Coordinator), Nathaniel Wilder (Photojournalist), and Janessa Gans Wilder (Trip Educator & Founder of Euphrates Institute* non-profit; www.euphratesinstitute.com ); and Dick Block (Candidate for Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies), have all returned recently from their respective visits to Israel and the Palestinian Territories or the West Bank.
They looked at the situation on the ground regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its effect on the people and have assembled a presentation and report of their observations and discoveries, including photo-journalistic shots of ancient and modern Israeli-Palestinian points of interest. The presentation includes ample time for Q&A.
They are happy to share what they have learned at an informal gathering, free and open to all, hosted by Richard and Diane Block and Patricia and Robert Wilder

Lunchtime Discussion Two: Bin Laden’s Death & Its Implications

by admin on May 12, 2011

The Euphrates Institute cordially invites you to another afternoon discussion on the Middle East. This time, we will be addressing the implications involving Osama bin Laden’s recent passing and how his death will change the Middle East and the world.

This is another great opportunity to connect with professors and peers in order to discuss and evaluate issues that are on the front lines of newspapers today. By being aware of these critical topics, we as individuals and as a campus are better prepared to address these issues prayerfully.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 12 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. We will meet in the dining room next to the fire place.

We hope to see you all there!
