‣ Fellows of the Month

Each month, the Fellows Program Manager features two Fellows who have contributed in an outstanding way during that month, either through research, planning a great event, stepping up as a leader, or going above and beyond in whichever arena they are working!  At the close of each academic year, Fellows of the Year are selected.

October 2012: Kynan Witters-Hicks & Sarah Butson

Our Fellows of the Month are Kynan and Sarah. Kynan is the director of the Campus Base committee and Sarah is the director of the Research Committee. Both have already started into their committee work. Kynan led his committee this week to successfully celebrate the International Day of Peace at Principia College and helped to plan the upcoming Lunchtime Skype Session with a US official from the Algerian Embassy on September 24th, 2012. Kynan has such an amazing vision for the Fellows program as a whole and his personality just resonates with everyone he meets. Sarah has already started outlining the large, one-year research undertaking her committee is working on. She is an individual who always puts other people and their needs above her own and she always produces a quality result. Sarah also has a humble spirit that yearns to unfold a sustainable and lasting peace between the West and Middle East. We are so grateful for both of these Fellow Directors commitment to leadership!

September 2012: Jamie Rybak & Lisa Myles

Both Jamie and Lisa have jumped right into their roles as Fellows. Both went out of their way to attend an interfaith talk in St. Louis and are ready to delve into their individual projects. From his application to accepting the position of directing the Outreach committee, Jamie has already shown that he goes beyond and above any minimum requirements. He brings great initiative, humor, and a disciplined thought to the Principia Fellows chapter and we cannot wait to see what else he has to offer this year! Lisa’s passion for learning about culture, religion, and helping to foster a peaceful dialogue with other world citizens is such a huge contribution to the Fellows this year. Lisa has an incredible work ethic and expresses such a humble character. Lisa serves on the research committee and we cannot wait to see what her research unfolds!

2011-2012 Fellows of the Year!

Abbie Steckler began with Euphrates fall semester of her freshmen year, and we are so grateful for all that she has contributed to the Fellows Program! In the fall, Abbie jumped right in to learning about the Middle East and was eager to be involved in as many committees as possible. She really went above and beyond in her dedication to helping out with the Euphrates Summit: Our World Beyond 9/11 and has played an invaluable role in helping to edit the videos from the Summit. This past semester, Abbie served as the Video Production Committee Head and did a wonderful job shepherding her committee members. She also put together an outstanding project researching Iranian film. Overall, we have been impressed by Abbie’s incredible work ethic, as well as her uplifted thought and lightheartedness.

Kynan Witters Hicks has been with the Fellows Program for the past two years and has gone above and beyond in his contributions to Euphrates. Kynan has been willing to serve in a variety of ways, ranging from being involved in the Campus Events, Lunchtime Discussion, Social Media and Blogging Committees and volunteering in a variety of roles at the Euphrates Summit: Our World Beyond 9/11.One specific way that he supported the Summit was helping to call prospective participants. Kynan is an incredible learner and is quick to ask questions and encourage others to go deeper. We are so grateful for the humility and grace he expresses, as well as his excitement to share what he is learning with others. For example, Kynan is always prepared for the lunchtime discussions and is quick to insert helpful information. Kynan also did an outstanding job with his individual project and was really excited to share this project with others. Overall, we have been impressed by Kynan’s dedication to learning more about the Middle East with incredible poise.
