We’re very pleased to announce that Euphrates Institute has joined forces with Principia College, in Elsah, Illinois, to form the Principia Euphrates Center for Middle East Understanding, an action-oriented research center, dedicated to
- expanding our awareness of the cultural and political dimensions of the Middle East;
- cultivating relations based on mutual respect and our common humanity.
CMU aids undergraduates to develop a nuanced understanding of the Middle East and to promote relations based on mutual respect and common humanity. We do this by guiding and supporting research, hosting events and gatherings of scholars and practitioners, enabling real-life connections with the Middle East, and providing outlets to share findings and questions.
CMU has six undergraduate Fellows who have been accepted for Fall, and who are undertaking research projects, conducting outreach to St. Louis area Middle East programs, clubs, and interfaith groups, as well as planning events.
CMU’s first event is this evening, a screening and discussion of the documentary film by Just Vision, entitled, “Encounter Point”, about the everyday leaders espousing non-violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. View the published press release in the St. Louis Post-Dispath online.
The Principia Pilot has also published an article about CMU, that includes interviews with several of our Fellows.
CMU also has a design team, Duncan Wilder and James Suber, who have created a promotional video for this evening’s inaugural event, viewable on the Euphrates youtube channel here.
We are thrilled about this important development for Euphrates Institute, and the promise of this partnership with Principia!
